Late Return Filers Can Join ATL After Payment of Surcharge

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) uploaded the List of Active Taxpayers (ATL) for the tax year 2020 on March 1, 2021.

Active Taxpayer List (ATL) is available on FBR’s official website. The number of income tax returns for the tax year 2020 reached 2.62 million on February 28, 2021, compared to 2.43 million for the tax year 2019 as on January 28, 2020. The tax paid along with return for the Tax Year 2020 is 49.6 billion which is 60% higher than the tax paid with the return for the year 2019 as of February 28, 2020.

The FBR further said that 509,039 filers have not been included in this year’s ATL as they could not submit their tax returns within the due date and surcharge for becoming Active Taxpayer still not paid.

The FBR has clarified that such taxpayers can automatically join the ATL if they pay the required ATL surcharge. The amount of ATL surcharge for companies is Rs. 20,000, Rs. 10,000 for Association of Persons / Partnership Businesses and Rs. 1,000 for individuals. FBR encourages such taxpayers to pay the relevant amount of ATL surcharge and avail of ATL.

Similarly, taxpayers who still not filed their returns for the tax year 2020 also urged to avail the benefits of ATL by filing their returns for the Tax Year 2020 with payment of ATL surcharge.
