Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin has sought more time from the National Assembly speaker for presenting the annual budget for fiscal year 2021-22.
According to media reports, the speaker’s chamber had contacted Shaukat Tarin and consulted about summoning the budget session. Shaukat Tarin, however, told the speaker office that he has just taken charge of the ministry of finance and i will need some more time to prepare the annual budget for the Tax Year 2022.
The speaker of National Assembly later on contacted the parliamentary leaders of opposition parties and informed them that the government wanted to present the budget in the second or third week of June.
Moreover, the opposition parties, asked the government of PTI to hold the budget session in the first week of June. They said the budget session will continue for at least three weeks and if the session starts in the mid of June, then it cannot be concluded by the end of the month of June 2021.
Shaukat Tarin came after replacement of PTI’s recently appointed finance minister Hammad Azhar. Before Hammad’s short period, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was the finance minister. Prime Minister Imran Khan removed Dr Hafeez Shaikh due to point of differences over the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
