Law enforcement agencies sealed 609 illegal petrol pumps

Pakistan Customs along with the help of law enforcement agencies sealed around 609 illegal petrol pumps which were selling smuggled petroleum products.

About 4.5 million liters of smuggled petrol and diesel have also sealed during the operation, a statement issued by the PM office said on Friday. The authorities have initiated crackdown against the illegitimate petrol pumps on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to the Interior Ministry, the work of the Interior Ministry’s subordinate board and non-discrimination is in full swing. With positive results beginning to emerge.

In case, fuel stations remain unable to provide the reliable evidences within seven days of the action. The government then will authorize to seize their pump along with other properties under the Custom Act.

He added that the non-production of documents would reflect the fact that these properties acquired through illegal smuggling. According to an estimate, the country is facing an annual deficit of Rs 150 billion from the smuggled oil sale. Approximately 2,094 fuel stations were found involved in the sale of smuggled petroleum products in the three provinces. On January 4, Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the sale of smuggled petroleum products. Also ordered for stern action against those involved in causing heavy damage to the national exchequer.
