Lahore Tax Bar Requests FBR to Extend Sales Tax Return Filing Deadline – Recently Lahore Tax Bar Association has formally written to the Federal Board of Revenue for an extension in filing sales tax returns for the months of April, May and June 2025. The association has requested 31st July 2025 to be the extended deadline.
Reasons Behind the Lahore Tax Bar Requests FBR to Extend Sales Tax Return Filing Deadline
The Lahore Tax Bar Association has highlighted the following several technical and operational issues which are effecting the compliance on timely basis.
- Delayed or Failed OTPs (One Time Password): Taxpayers are facing delays in receiving OTPs and sometime fails to receive at all.
- QR Code Scanning Malfunction: The QR code scanning feature used during two factor authentication has been reported to be malfunction especially during peak hours.
- Errors in Annexure III: Annexure III of Sales Tax Return has shown inconsistencies and frequent error messages during data input and validation.
- Slow system response and Downtime: Tax Practitioners have reported slow system response and unexpected downtimes during critical hours and thus it leads to delay in tax filing.
- Unexpected Logouts & Session Expiry: Users are facing logged out unexpectedly and facing premature session expiry and all such resulting in data loss and extra efforts.
Proposed Relief by Lahore Tax Bar Association
Considering the issues highlighted above and requested by Lahore Tax Bar Association through a formal letter communicated to FBR to allow taxpayers to file sales tax returns for April, May and June 2025 by 31st July 2025 without penalties and late payment surcharge.
Why this Matters?
Filling of sales tax returns on timely basis is a legal obligation but tax consultants and practitioners are facing problems to fitful this obligation / compliance on timely basis.

While the request letter to FBR from LTBA is under consideration then taxpayers are advised to:
- Keep trying to file sales tax returns and save the data frequently.
- Keep error messages & screenshots for future references.
