Pakistan to import sugar, cotton from India: Hammad Azhar Press Conference

Federal Finance Minister Hammad Azhar while during press conference at PID said on Wednesday that the government has decided to import 0.5 million metric tonnes of sugar from India.

While addressing a press conference at the ‘Press Information Department (PID)’ today Mr Hammad Azhar said, “Pakistan will also open the trade of cotton with India.”

Hammad Azhar also explained that this was a difficult decision for government. But this decision taken for the country in view of a given situation.

The proposal to allow both the cotton and sugar imports from India will be presented first before Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). ECC and Cabinet will consider the approval at the meeting convened by the country’s Ministry of Commerce.

The panel will take up two summaries of the commerce and textile ministry. To lift the ban on import of cotton, cotton yarn, and white sugar from India.

The ECC meeting, will be headed over by the newly appointed Finance Minister of Pakistan Mr Hammad Azhar. The meeting will have 21 items on its agenda.
