Overseas Pakistanis have developed a ‘Made in Pakistan’ electric car that will be launched soon in the next three to four months in Pakistan.
It is an initiative of DICE Foundation, a group of Pakistanis based in United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. They used expertise of overseas Pakistanis in the field of auto technology. DICE Foundation Founder and Chairman Dr Khursheed Qureshi told the media that Pakistan soon introducing a ‘Made-in-Pakistan’ electric car to the world by utilizing expertise of overseas Pakistanis.
This electric car was designed by Pakistani experts who are working abroad in different auto companies. They volunteered their services for the manufacture of made in Pakistan car. Overseas Pakistanis built it in according to international engineering standards. The car has best reviews and will be great attraction for the world of electric vehicles.
Qureshi informed that $100,000 currently spent on the design and manufacture of the prototype of the electric car. Normally, it takes about $100 million to complete this kind of prototype. But due to volunteering by Pakistani auto experts, such a huge funds has been saved.
It is important to mention here that technical education institutes and industry of Pakistan have also provided assistance in the project. The technical analysis was done at DHA Suffa University. Work for battery pack and power electronics was done at NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi.
The interior and exterior design of the car was done by the National College of Art. Similarly, the fabrication of the car was done in TEVTA. This project is also taking help from auto parts industry and vendors and manufactures of car parts in Pakistan.
Only the battery cells used in the car were imported from abroad while all the work of battery pack and fabrication is being done in Pakistan. Some companies have also expressed interest in commercial production of the electric car’s batteries in Pakistan.
Once the prototype of the car is ready, it will be undergone in trials on the road and modified according to roads, driving trend, environment and weather of Pakistan. According to Foundation after the success of the prototype, investors would be invited to invest at least $30 million in this project. He further said, that electric car, parts and batteries will also be export quality and hopefully will also be exported to earn foreign exchange.
