According to latest Active Taxpayer List issued by FBR, about 200,000 income tax return filers paid penalty / surcharge to become Active Taxpayer and include their names in Active Taxpayers List (ATL) during first 14 days of March.
According to latest Active Taxpayer List (ATL) issued by FBR for tax year 2020 updated up to March 14, 2021. The total number of active taxpayers have increased to 2.37 million. As compared with 2.17 million active taxpayers in the ATL of 2020 issued by the FBR on March 01, 2021.
The appearance of taxpayers’ name on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) exempts taxpayer from withholding tax on various transactions and reduction of withholding tax rate.
Previously, the FBR included names of only those taxpayers, who filed their annual income tax returns within due date. Also included to those taxpayers whose extension applications were approved by commissioner appeals.
However, those taxpayers who are late filers or have not submitted their tax returns. They can also include their names on the ATL after payment of surcharge.
The amount of surcharge for becoming active tax filer is different for Individuals, AOPs and Companies. It is Rs1,000 for individuals, Rs10,000 for Association of Persons and Rs20,000 is for corporate entities.
