FBR has been asked to be fully digitized by July 2021: PM Says

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been asked to be fully digitized by July 2021.

It allow the government to increase tax collection and allocate more resources in the social sector. It will help increase spending on human capital. Addressing the inaugural function of the National Highways Authority (NHA) e-bidding, e-billing and GIS mapping system, the Prime Minister termed corruption as a major obstacle to the country’s development.

“It is unfortunate that as a society we have accepted commissions, bribery and corruption,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that he wants full digitization in the FBR by July 2021. This has been conveyed to FBR. He said that once the work completes, it will be a major change in the county with a rapid increase in tax collection, which will allow the government to increase spending on the social sector. The Prime Minister said that other ministries have also been directed to adopt automation this summer.

The Prime Minister said that the country is moving towards digitization and transparency from NHA through e-bidding, e-billing and GIS mapping, and after NHA, digitization in FBR, and then in other departments and ministries.

He said that most of the “commissions” prepared through the construction of roads on which the NHA depended. He said that there was a lot of corruption in the award of contracts through manual bidding. The introduction of e-bidding system would bring transparency in the conduct of contracts. It will end the menace of “commission” and bribery. Later, human interaction in the billing system will reduce the incidence of bribery.
