Reza Baqir is a Pakistani economist. He is the 20th Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. He was appointed at this position in year 2019. Currently, he is working at the same post.
Early life and education
Dr Raza Baqir graduated from Harvard University. After this he obtained a PhD in economics at the University of California Berkley.
Professional Career
Before his current position as Governor, State Bank of Pakistan. Dr Raza Baqir held different positions in the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Such positions included being the Mission Chief for Romania and Bulgaria. He was also the IMF’s Senior Resident Representative.
In 2019, President Arif Alvi appointed Dr Raza Baqir as Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan for a period of three years. The appointment took place a day after his predecessor Tariq Bajwa was removed from his post.
