Investors in the Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) facing difficulties in paying taxes and duties due to the unavailability of tax collection booths in the Export Processing Zone.
Currently, there are more than 270 commercial and industrial units operating in KPZ. However, they have to travel 15 km to pay taxes and duties as the nearest tax collection booth is at Karachi Airport.
Asif Sheikh Javed, former convener of FPCCI for Export Processing Zone, has written a letter to Finance Minister Hamad Azhar. Highlighting the issue facing KEPZ investors. He emphasized on the establishment of tax collection booths within the Export Processing Zone to facilitate commercial and industrial units.
Hundreds of shipments leave KEPZ every week and declarations of their goods (GD) are being filed at KEPZ Customs. However, at the NBP Airport booth, miles away from KEPZ. Traders and agents have to visit on a daily basis to pay duties, taxes, stamps and infrastructure cess.
